Mother Nature postpones Hoosier Dirt Shootout finale
Making their second appearance of the season, Cade Dillard returned with the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series at Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa) on Tuesday evening to compete on the quarter-mile oval. Starting the night off with a heat race victory over Ashton Winger, Dillard earned the pole position for the A-Main via the redraw. Blasting into the lead on the drop of the green flag, Cade led the first 19 circuits until Brandon Sheppard snuck by. Regaining the top spot on lap 36, the pair began swapping back-and-forth for the lead the next 10 circuits. With Sheppard wrestling it away on lap 46 with four laps remaining, Cade Dillard hung on to a runner-up finish behind Sheppard with Jimmy Owens, Jimmy Mars, and Chris Simpson completing the Top-5 finishers. Friday night saw Dillard return to action with the World of Outlaws at Kokomo Speedway (Kokomo, Ind.) for the two-day Hoosier Dirt Shootout. Drawing 32 cars for the event in place of the Prairie Dirt Classic, Cade posted the sixth fastest time in his qualifying group, which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the his 25-lap preliminary feature. With $2,500 on the line, Dillard charged forward three spots to place third behind Jimmy Owens and Shane Clanton with Jason Feger and Kyle Bronson rounding out the Top-5.
With his third-place finish on Friday locking him into the redraw, Dillard pulled the fourth-starting position for the $25,000-to-win Hoosier Dirt Shootout. After Mother Nature postponed Saturday night's finale to Sunday afternoon, continued rain overnight and on Sunday morning forced race officials to postpone the finale to a date to be named.
Cade is currently fourth in the latest World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series point standings.
