Cade Dillard
12th place finish in fifth round of DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia
Cade Dillard returned to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Monday afternoon for the opening round of the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals. In a stout field of 51 Late Models, Cade fell short of a transfer position in his heat with a sixth place finish, transferring him into the B-Main. Streaking to a 10-lap consolation win, Dillard locked into the 21st-starting position for the main event. With $7,000 on the line, Cade improved six spots in the 30-lapper to finish 15th. The following night for another $7,000-to-win A-Main, Dillard recorded a fourth place finish in his heat, sending him into the B-Main for another shot at the feature. Locking in the Top 2, Cade came one spot shy with a third-place outing.
On Wednesday evening as the remainder of the weekend shifted under the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series banner, Dillard faded back to a seventh place finish in his heat after bringing out the first caution of the race on the opening lap. Failing to place second or better in his B-Main, Cade was one of 11 cars that received a provisional into the A-Main. Improving seven spots in the 40-lap affair, Dillard recorded an 18th-place outing.
For the fourth round of the 50th annual DIRTcar Nationals on Thursday, Cade followed up the seventh fastest time in his qualifying group with an eight-lap heat race victory. Starting the feature in sixth, Dillard experienced brake issues on the second lap that sent him spinning, causing a multi-car tangle that resulted in a DNF.
With the field reduced to 38 cars on Friday night, Dillard edged his way into the $10,000-to-win A-Main with the fourth and final transfer spot in his heat. Rolling off 15th, Cade clawed forward three spots in the 40-lapper to register a 12th-place finish.
Persistent rain overnight on Friday wiped out Saturday night’s finale.
Cade is 11th in the latest World of Outlaws point standings.
