Dillard, Babb, Fett, Brown and Smith win rare Friday features at Boone

It was a new adventure on Friday at Boone Speedway as the World of Outlaws Late Models came to town for a two day show with Modifieds, Stock Cars and SportMods joining the card. Cade Dillard and Shannon Babb won the "Twin Hawk" races for the Late Models, and that sets them up for final qualifying and a 100 lap feature on Saturday night.

Austin Price and Dusty Masolini were the front row starters for the SportMods with Masolini the early leader. After a rash of cautions in the early going it was Colby Fett taking control just before the halfway point of the 20 lap feature. Cory Pestotnik made a charge with around 5 to go but Fett would go on to take the comfortable win. Pestotnik finished second with Garrett Nelson third, Masolini fourth and Troy Bauer fifth.

It was a pair of 3's on the front row of the Modified feature with Andy Tiernan and Kelly Shryock leading the field to the green flag. Shryock held the early advantage with Todd Shute hounding him through the first quarter of their 20 lap A main. Shute would overpower Shryock and looked to sail to the double checkers, but a couple of late race cautions changed everything. Kyle Brown took advantage of a restart with four laps left to get the jump on the outside and take the lead. Shute fought back and with two to go the leaders made contact coming out of turn two. Shute would go spinning and the field scattered as the caution flew again. Brown would hold strong at the front on the restart and go on to the win with Shryock second, Cody Thompson third, Lucas Lamberies fourth and Jake McBirnie fifth.

Last up on the eventful evening would be the Stock Cars with father/son duo Anthony and Mike Goldsberry on the front row. Anthony looked to be shot out of a cannon as he gapped the field over the first few laps on the top side of the track. It would be short lived as he went for a solo spin in turn four to bring out the yellow and hand the lead to Mike. As Mike led it was setting up to be a family affair behind him with brothers Devin and Donavon Smith running second and third as the race wound down. Devin sized up the remaining Goldsberry and the two made contact as the white flag flew. The leaders changed their line in turns 3-4 and that allowed Donavon to use the momentum off of the top side to drive under the leaders and take the win at the line! Devin finished second with Mike Goldsberry third, Randy Brands fourth and Modified winner Kyle Brown fifth. The top four were separated by 0.366 seconds at the line in a terrific finish!

Saturday will see another draw/redraw show for IMCA Modifieds, Stock Cars and SportMods as they accompany the WoO Late Models in the finale of the Hawkeye 100. Hotlaps are at 5:30 with opening ceremonies following. See you there!
